Services and Rates
When you submit your document for editing, we will contact you regarding what kind of editing we suggest. We organize our editing in three levels:
Light editing: checks your spelling, punctuation, and basic grammatical structure. This service is typically for fluent speakers of English who just need a native speaker’s eye to catch the occasional error. One lightly- edited page has fewer than 10 errors.
Medium editing: everything listed in light editing and also includes word choice and sentence structure (for example, active voice ‘Mr. Jones informed me’ vs. passive voice ‘I was informed by Mr. Jones’). This service is typically used by advanced speakers of English.
Heavy editing: everything listed in medium editing and also includes review of your overall structure (sentences and paragraphs), flow and coherency, clarity and tone (how your document sounds: formal, informal, apologetic, demanding).
Editing and correction: for the client who wants to make the most of our services. We can provide you explanations along with the corrections made to your document. This is a very helpful tool, as you will learn why your mistakes were mistakes. Example:
Correction only:
- (mistake) Almost Americans drink milk with meals.
- (corrected) Most Americans drink milk with meals.
Correction with explanation:
- (mistake) Almost Americans drink milk with meals.
- (corrected) Most Americans drink milk with meals.
- (explanation) ‘almost’ is an adverb, not a quantity. It has the same meaning as ‘nearly’.
Example: We almost missed our appointment because of the heavy traffic.
- (explanation) ‘most’ is a quantity. It means ‘the majority or nearly all’.
Example: Most children learn to read in the first grade.
